WiTricity Appoints Peter Wambsganss as Director of Business Development for Europe

Power electronics industry veteran tasked with strengthening WiTricity’s wireless charging market leadership position in Europe

Watertown, MA. – May 12, 2015 WiTricity, the industry pioneer in wireless power transfer over distance, has hired Peter Wambsganss as director of business development for Europe. Wambsganss, who is based in Germany, will be responsible for further driving growth of WiTricity’s business in Europe as major companies in the region bring products to market equipped with WiTricity technology for wireless charging based on magnetic resonance.

Coming on the heels of recent licensing agreements with European battery charger manufacturer CTEK and automotive tier-1 power electronics supplier BRUSA, WiTricity is aggressively pursuing further opportunities for company growth in the automotive, medical, industrial and consumer electronics fields. Wambsganss’ extensive industry knowledge and impressive network will help WiTricity establish its foothold in Europe and cement its position as the global leader in wireless power transfer over distance.

Wambsganss has more than 20 years of experience working in technology R&D, commercialization and business development in the fields of power electronics, battery charging, and wireless energy transfer. Prior to joining WiTricity, he served as the head of the Laboratory & Information Technology Department at the Fraunhofer Institute for Biomedical Engineering (IBMT). As a co-founder and CTO of RRC Power Solutions, Peter led RRC’s development of advanced power conversion, battery charging and wireless energy transfer systems.

Wambsganss’ work has been widely recognized, garnering accolades that include the Product Design Award of the German Federal State Saarland, the TOP Innovator Award for Medium Sized Companies, the Innovation Award of the German Economy, the MEDTEC & EMDT Innovation Award and the DeviceMed award. He has over 30 published journal and conference papers in the area of power electronics and holds three patents with seven patents pending. Wambsganss is a member of the IEEE Power Electronic Society and was elected to the grade of IEEE Senior Member in recognition of professional standing in 2005.
