WiTricity CEO to Kick off Wireless Power Week 2019 with Keynote about Wireless Charging’s Role in Future of Mobility

At the event, WiTricity, along with BMW Group and Zoller Electronik AG, will unveil paper addressing impedance measurement of electric vehicle wireless power transfer systems to ensure interoperability

Watertown, Mass.June 11, 2019 WiTricity, the industry pioneer in wireless power transfer over distance, today announced that CEO Alex Gruzen will be the first keynote to kick off Wireless Power Week 2019 next week in London. His plenary talk, “Wireless Charging: Driving EV Adoption and the Autonomous Future,” will be hosted on June 18 at 9 a.m. BST. Additionally, WiTricity will unveil a joint paper addressing measurement of the electrical impedance of an electric vehicle’s (EV’s) wireless charging system, which is critical for compatibility between the ground and vehicle assembly.

Wireless Power Week 2019, taking place from June 17-21, is the industry-leading conference focused on cordless power applications. Now in its second year, the conference brings together two major IEEE events focused on the wireless trend: The MTT-S Wireless Power Transfer Conference (WPTC) and PELS Workshop on Emerging Technologies: Wireless Power (WoW). At Wireless Power Week 2019, industry leaders plan to showcase the technology’s impact on medical devices, RFID sensors, smartphones and, most significantly, electric vehicles (EVs).

Gruzen’s keynote will address the critical role wireless charging technology plays in catalyzing EV adoption, and additionally enabling self-driving vehicles to reach full potential. Gruzen’s session will reveal how cordless options for EVs make powering-up even more convenient for drivers, while upholding the same efficiency and speed as conventional plug-in charging. With the explosive growth taking shape in mobility-as-a-service, Gruzen will expand on why WiTricity is key to a future of transportation that is electric, autonomous and shared.

WiTricity, BMW Group and Zollner Elektronik AG will unveil a joint report, “Impedance Measurement on Inductive Power Transfer Systems,” at the event as well. The three companies’ research reveals a solution to measuring the electrical impedance between a vehicle’s charging pad and the ground assembly pad, an industry challenge and necessity when qualifying the vehicle for the SAE J2954 standard and to ensure interoperability.
