WiTricity CTO Receives NCWIT Symons Innovator Award

National Center for Women & Information Technology recognizes Katie Hall for her success in building WiTricity and role in bringing next-generation innovations to the tech industry at large

WATERTOWN, Mass.– WiTricity, the inventor and patent holder of highly resonant wireless power transfer technology, today announced that Chief Technology Officer Katie Hall has been recognized by the National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) for her role in establishing the company as a valuable IT business and bringing next-generation wireless charging solutions to the broader tech industry.

Each year, the NCWIT Symons Innovator Award honors an outstanding woman who has successfully grown and funded an IT business. Created by the NCWIT Entrepreneurial Alliance with support from EMC Corporation and Turner Broadcasting System, Inc., the award is named in memory of Jeanette Symons, founder of Industrious Kid, Zhone Technologies, and Ascend Communications. Previous award recipients include Findery founder Caterina Fake, serial entrepreneur and investor Jessica Jackley, and angel investor Audrey MacLean.

“Being selected as the 2014 NCWIT Symons Innovator is a tremendous honor,” said Katie Hall, CTO of WiTricity. “One of my favorite things about starting and growing businesses is working with incredibly passionate and talented people, so I am really glad to see the team at WiTricity being recognized for the innovative work they do every day. NCWIT is a fantastic organization, and I hope that my story encourages more young women to pursue careers in the tech industry.”

Added Lucy Sanders, CEO and Co-founder of NCWIT: “Technology innovation is driven by various perspectives and solutions. By recognizing successful female tech pioneers like Katie, we aim to inspire more women to pursue careers in IT. Katie’s story truly embodies our mission with her intelligence, ambition, and leadership driving her career success.”

Nominees for the NCWIT Symons Innovator Award are selected from among NCWIT’s “Entrepreneurial Heroes,” a podcast series featuring interviews with notable women IT entrepreneurs. Sanders conducted an interview with Hall in 2010, where Hall discussed her role building WiTricity, her interest in establishing a career in technology, why startups are exciting, and her advice to aspiring entrepreneurs. The full podcast interview can be found here.

Hall will be honored at the NCWIT’s annual award celebration on April 9, 2014 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. More information about the NCWIT Symons Innovator Award program can be found at https://www.ncwit.org/innovatoraward.
