Wireless EV charging at CES

Fri, Jan 19, 2024

Last week was a whirlwind! The Las Vegas Sphere may be the newest tourist attraction in town, but wireless EV charging was certainly one of the newest technologies at CES. (I didn’t get to see the Sphere inside, but I got to see the outside, and it looks really cool.) And like the Sphere, which is attracting thousands daily, our demonstration of wireless charging did the same.

We had two street-legal golf carts in our booth, one from Icon EV and one from E-Z-GO, and those two EVs were the ONLY electric vehicles charging in a booth at CES this year. We weren’t allowed to move the vehicles, so we put the 900-watt charger on wheels to show how easy it would be to charge with no hassle – and to show just how fast the charging can happen.

The team in the booth spent a lot of time educating people about how the technology works and why it’s similar to – but critically different from – wireless charging for your phone. As always, we had to debunk a bunch of myths, too.

Number one myth continues to be that somehow you compromise on speed or efficiency. That’s the critical difference between our technology and the technology used to charge your phone.

It was great to see the interest in the KG Mobility Torres EVX. This is the first time anyone in the United States had an opportunity to see this vehicle and it is sharp! Visitors from Korea were particularly excited to hear that KG Mobility will make wireless charging an option on one of its 2025 models. Talk about competitive differentiation!

CES 2024 created a lot of memories. I’m looking forward to getting recharged (rest, tennis, and Peloton will help!) and continuing to help make the EV charging experience safer, easier, and more convenient.
