Got wireless?

We asked golf car, neighborhood electric vehicle (NEV), and low-speed vehicle owners what they thought about wireless charging, and unsurprisingly 95% of those surveyed were interested. Their top reasons:

Wireless EV for Golf Cars Make charging easier — no bending over, no messing with cables.

Wireless EV for Golf Carts Safe for entire family — easy to install and then all you need to do is park to charge

Wireless EV for Golf NEVs Everyone wants convenience — and nobody wants to worry about remembering to plug in or to unplug!

That ease, safety, and convenience were so impactful in our survey that consumers would prefer an identically equipped vehicle with wireless charging 2:1 over the one without it!

The new wheels

NEVs are growing in popularity as the vehicle of choice for day to day across the sunbelt and beyond—communities like Peachtree in Georgia and Sun City in Arizona are the poster children for how these eco-friendly vehicles deliver a more modern mobility solution. Street legal, fun to drive, and easy to park, what could be better for a quick trip around the community, a visit to the beach, or a night on the town?

WiTricity is working with the leading manufacturers, building one charging platform that will work across equipped vehicles. Let us know if you are interested! Use the contact link below to let us know what golf car or NEV brand and model you’d like to see support wireless charging.

FAQs

How does WiTricity wireless charging work? +
WiTricity's patented magnetic resonance (MR) technology enables the highly efficient transfer of power over the air between the Power Hub and a Receiver mounted to the underside of an electric vehicle without any physical connection.

Resonant coils—Both the Power Hub and Receiver have coils tuned to the same resonant frequency, much like a radio tuned to pick up a specific station. Once a wirelessly equipped vehicle is parked over a Power Hub, charging begins automatically. AC power from the grid flows into the Power Hub, which generates an oscillating magnetic field. That magnetic field is induced onto the Receiver.

Energy transfer over the air—Unlike a wireless phone charger, which requires the charger and the device to be very close together, the Receiver captures the oscillating magnetic field from the Power Hub over a significant air gap, which can range from 2 to 5 inches.

Conversion to electricity – AC voltage induced in the coil in the receiver is then converted to DC electric output which is connected to the battery which will charge up.
What are the benefits of using wireless charging? +
The benefits of wireless charging go beyond the convenience of being able to simply park and know that your cart is charging. There is no worry about forgetting, no bending over to pick up a plug, and no tricky cable or cord to maneuver to get the plug in correctly. And, you can safely leave your vehicle parked and charging if you are away from home. The Power Hub is smart and will automatically turn off until it is needed for charging again.
What is an NEV? +
An NEV is a “neighborhood electric vehicle,” which has similar characteristics to a golf cart. The primary difference is that an NEV meets requirements to be driven on city streets. The term “NEV” is often used interchangeably with the terms “Low Speed Vehicle” (LSV) or more generally, “golf car.”
When will WiTricity wireless charging for golf carts and neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) become available? +
WiTricity is working today with multiple partners to equip select vehicles in 2025 to support its wireless charging system.
Is this the same wireless charging solution as WiTricity for electric cars and trucks? +
All WiTricity wireless platforms are built on the same underlying technology of using magnetic resonance to transfer power, but vary in terms of physical format and power delivery. WiTricity MR/1 is the specific platform that is the solution for golf carts, NEVs, and other low-speed vehicles. The different platforms are not interoperable.
Will this system work with all NEVs? +
Any NEV that is properly equipped with the WiTricity MR/1 vehicle Receiver can use the same MR/1 Power Hub to charge. Note, however, that different height vehicles may necessitate either adding or removing the Power Hub risers.
Are all WiTricity wireless charging solutions interoperable? +
Any NEV or golf cart equipped with the WiTricity MR/1 Receiver can charge on a WiTricity MR/1 Power Hub, but platforms designed for different types of vehicles, i.e., passenger vehicles, light-duty vehicles, etc., are not interoperable.
Can I charge my cellphone or other device on the WiTricity MR/1 Power Hub? +
No, the Power Hub is designed to be used only with the WiTricity MR/1 Receiver installed on an NEV. You should not attempt to use it to charge any other device.
What if I have a golf cart today that I want to have equipped with wireless charging? +
Use our contact us form to let us know the make and model – or reach out to your local dealer to inquire.
Is this system safe to use? +
Yes, the WiTricity MR/1 wireless charging solution meets or exceeds applicable safety standards and has been certified for use by the FCC.
How is the Power Hub installed? What will a customer need to run it? +
The Power Hub plugs into an ordinary grounded household outlet (15A or higher) and does not require any special tools to install. The Power Hub can be installed either indoors or outdoors.
Where can I buy it? +
WiTricity MR/1 will be sold through golf cart and NEV manufacturer dealer channels in 2025.
Where can I find a spec sheet or more information? +
You can download a spec sheet here. We also have an eBook about consumer feedback to WiTricity for golf cars and NEVs.
